DANCE
DANCE/IMPROVISATION WITH MARIE – Experience the intense pleasure of creative physical movement in an open and supportive environment. In this class we’ll explore various inspirations as we weave together common threads of movement, from the ancient practice of yoga, to the fluidity and freedom of contemporary dance. Working from our center, we’ll explore balance and resistance and find the power of being fully grounded. Precise alignment and the rhythm of the breath will focus and refine our attention. As we move through space, our heightened attention helps us listen to our bodies and hear those around us. We focus our energies and are fully committed to each movement, each moment, and to each other. The music, the space, and the energy of those in it, inspire and reconnect us with the joy of dancing.

TRAINING THE MIND WITH MINDFULNESS MEDITATION Training the mind is similar to training the body. To get results, we need patient and consistent effort. Mindfulness practice helps us to develop our ability to focus our mind so that we can use it for a variety of activities in our lives. From participating in sports to reducing stress, increasing productivity or simply staying focused on what we are doing, mindfulness practice is a time honored technique for developing greater precision and awareness. By being with ourselves in this way, we can awaken to the innate goodness that is our inherent birthright. Through meditation practice, group discussion and interactive exercises we will explore and experience the power of mindfulness and how to use it as an ally in our daily lives. Bruce McClelland is an experienced practitioner, program director and certified meditation instructor for Shambhala International. He has been practicing mindfulness meditation for over 30 years.

YOGA
YOGA – CROSS TRAINING A fun, intense class consisting of short bursts of powerful strength and plyometric exercises with the balance and stability work through yoga. Each day will present a new set of challenges as we master form in the most powerful strength-building exercises: push-ups, squats, lunges, handstands, and sprints. We will build both intensity and complexity upon these foundational exercises and combine them with the appropriate yoga poses to challenge core strength and balance. This course follows the principal that the biggest fitness gains are acquired through regularly changing challenges, performed for short periods at high intensity. Participants will receive the strength and metabolic conditioning of functional cross training and develop the ability to define and realign structural imbalances through yoga.

It combines targeted body-sculpting exercises and high-energy cardio work with Latin-infused Zumba moves to create a calorie-torching, strength-training dance fitness-party. Students learn how to use lightweight, maraca-like Toning Sticks to enhance rhythm and tone all their target zones, including arms, abs, glutes and thighs. Zumba Toning is the perfect way for enthusiasts to sculpt their bodies naturally while having a total blast. Toning Sticks will be provided for use in the class, so no equipment purchase is required.
