The Dartmouth Club Racquetball Team competed in their first meet this weekend, playing in the Eastern Collegiate Racquetball Club tournament in Albany, NY.
Captain Alex Danilowicz ‘19 played a hard fought game against a player from Rutgers University, ultimately losing 8-15 in the first game. The star of the team, freshman Eric Laderman, came close to clinching a red division quarter finals spot, ultimately losing to a player from Nichols College 14-15, 13-15. Senior Nick Schwartz lost to a player from UConn 4-15, 3-15. A win went to sophomore Brian Mc Gartoll, who took a time penalty to take home a 15-0 score against Clarkson University. The team also played four doubles matches. Danilowicz and Mc Gartoll advanced to the red division finals where they lost to a team from RPI. Schwartz and Laderman lost to a team from UConn.
“Despite our losses, we learned a lot about the sport. Everyone on the team played their hearts out and that’s all that matters,” Danilowicz said.
“We’ll definitely being coming to more meets,” said Laderman. “Now that we know the ropes of competitive play, we’re excited to step it up a notch in practice."
The meet lasted Friday to Sunday and was held at the Court Club in Albany, NY. Teams from UCONN, Rutgers, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Bryant, U.S. Military Academy, Clarkson, Rowan and Dartmouth attended. This was Dartmouth’s first time competing in the ECRC.
